Langdock vs. Patronus Protect: AI workspace or AI firewall?

In short
- Langdock is a platform for AI adoption: chat, agents, workflows and API with models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others, hosted in the EU. Based in Berlin.
- Patronus Protect is an AI firewall on the company machine: it detects every AI interaction, redacts sensitive data before it is sent and logs decisions. Based in Regensburg.
- Langdock answers the question "Where should our people use AI?". Patronus answers "What are they actually using, and what leaves the device while they do?".
- The products compete on one point only, governance. There, Langdock covers its own platform, Patronus covers every tool on the device.
This comparison is based on the public pages of both vendors as of September 7, 2026. Sources are listed at the end. Features not described there are claimed neither for Langdock nor for us.
What is Langdock?
Langdock calls itself "The Platform for AI Adoption". Companies get an interface where employees chat with models from several providers, build agents and automate workflows. According to the vendor, the model list includes GPT models from OpenAI, Claude models from Anthropic, Gemini, Llama, Mistral and DeepSeek, each tagged to show whether it is hosted in the EU.
Hosting runs on Microsoft Azure on servers in the EU, as multi-tenant SaaS, single-tenant, in the customer's own cloud or on-premise via Helm charts. The security page lists ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II, GDPR compliance, AES-256 and TLS 1.2 or higher, and no training on customer data. There are desktop apps, apps for iOS and Android, and add-ins for Outlook and Excel.
The governance features, an add-on according to the documentation, let administrators review, approve, flag or disable agents and define compliance rules, for example on prohibited practices under the EU AI Act. Visibility into MCP gateway usage is described there as planned.
What is Patronus Protect?
Patronus Protect is a small piece of software on every company machine that sits in the network path before data is encrypted. It recognizes AI traffic by behavior, independent of the provider: ChatGPT in the browser, Copilot, Claude, IDE assistants, browser extensions, local models such as Ollama, coding agents and MCP servers. A rule decides for every interaction: allow, redact, block, log.
Content inspection uses our own open models on the device: Wolf Defender for prompt injection, Orca Sonar for document types, the Husky family for agent tool calls. All of them are Apache 2.0 licensed on Hugging Face. Prompts and documents do not leave the machine to be inspected. Every decision lands in a local audit log that serves as evidence for the EU AI Act.
Patronus Monitor is the free version that only shows which AI tools are in use. Patronus Protect is the full version with enforcement.

Which one is for whom?
Langdock fits if you want to give employees an approved, EU-hosted way to use several models, with permissions, agents and workflows. The problem being solved is adoption: how do we bring AI into daily work safely?
Patronus Protect fits if you want to know which AI tools actually run on the devices and want to prevent customer data, secrets or source code from reaching a model, whatever the tool. The problem is control: what happens outside the approved path, and what leaves the device while it does?
Both together fit if you are rolling out a platform and want to know whether the workforce uses it or keeps going straight to ChatGPT. Patronus sees both. The rule can read: allow Langdock, allow other providers only with redaction, block unknown tools.
Three questions that settle the difference
- What happens to a prompt that contains customer data? On a platform: the prompt goes to the selected model, hosted in the EU. With Patronus: the customer data is detected on the device and redacted according to the rule before the prompt goes anywhere.
- What happens to the tool that is not approved? A platform governs what happens inside it. A firewall on the device also sees the browser extension, the local model and the coding agent in the terminal.
- Where is the evidence for the AI Act? Platform logs show usage of the platform. An endpoint log shows every AI interaction of the device, with the decision that was taken.
Verdict
Langdock and Patronus Protect answer different questions. If you need a safe place for AI usage, Langdock offers a platform with EU hosting and certifications. If you need to know what really happens on the devices and want sensitive data to stay there, you need a component on the endpoint. That is Patronus.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is Langdock a competitor of Patronus Protect?
Only at the edges. Langdock is a platform for AI adoption: chat, agents and workflows with models from several providers, hosted in the EU. Patronus Protect is an AI firewall on the endpoint that detects every AI interaction, redacts sensitive data and logs decisions, regardless of which tool is used. Many companies run both.
Does Langdock see employees using ChatGPT directly in the browser?
Langdock's public pages describe no feature that detects or controls AI usage outside its own platform. The governance features cover agents and skills built inside Langdock. Usage outside the platform requires a component on the device.
Does Langdock offer DLP or PII redaction?
On September 7, 2026, Langdock's Security, Enterprise and Pricing pages described no DLP feature and no PII redaction. Langdock lists encryption, permissions, audit logs and certifications. If this matters to you, ask the vendor directly for the current status.
Can Patronus Protect replace Langdock?
No. Patronus provides no models, no chat and no workflows. Patronus sits in front of every tool your employees use, including Langdock, and makes sure sensitive data stays on the device and usage is traceable.
How do the two compare on price?
Langdock publishes pricing tiers (Trial, Business, Enterprise, plus Workflows and a Governance add-on). Patronus Protect publishes no prices: Monitor is free for good, Protect is the paid full version with a free month at launch via the waitlist.
